The ArmChair Journal runs on people who believe that understanding bias, naming it, measuring it, and thinking past it, is worth the effort. All roles are voluntary. Every engagement is 5 months. A certificate of acknowledgment is issued on completion.
We are a small team with a specific purpose. Every role here touches the core question: how do ideas get framed, and what does it look like from another tradition?

Contributing Editor

Volunteer
Write 5 articles on topics of your interest and edit 50 articles based on the journal's editorial guidelines. You will be responsible for ensuring arguments are clearly structured, sources are sound, and the piece is positioned correctly within the lens framework.

Contributing Writer

Volunteer
Write 10 articles on topics of your interest over 5 months. Your pieces will be read through both the Academic and Indic lens, placed on its themes, and reviewed. You don't need to be an expert. You need to be curious, precise, and willing to engage an argument seriously.

Outreach Associate

Volunteer
Create and publish social media posts for articles across the journal's channels: Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Telegram. You understand how to translate a nuanced argument into a post that makes people want to read the full piece.

Cartoonist / Illustrator

Volunteer
Create 50 illustrations for articles over the engagement period. Style is entirely yours. We do not impose an aesthetic. See our homepage for the kind of work we have published. Each illustration should add something to the reading of a piece, not just decorate it.

Publishing Associate

Volunteer
Publish finalised articles on the journal's WordPress backend: formatting, tagging, scheduling, and ensuring each piece goes live correctly. Training is provided. This role requires reliability and attention to detail more than technical expertise.
